Before I share my recommendation for a great spot to meet entrepreneurs, business individuals, and digital nomads for genuine conversation in Medellin, Colombia, I want to share how I discovered this place while living in Medellín.

First, why I lived in Medellín

I lived in Medellin, Colombia, for 16 months before relocating to where I live now, Santa Rosa de Cabal, a small town. When I arrived in Medellín in 2021, I noticed it had become a sought-after destination for remote entrepreneurs, business owners, retirees, digital nomads, and investors from North America and Europe. The city has developed residential projects in specific areas that cater to digital nomads, and the infrastructure is accommodating for individuals living a digital nomad lifestyle, offering plenty of affordable housing options and activities. I initially decided to visit Medellin after a conversation with an individual I met at the FreedomFest Conference in Rapid City, South Dakota. He recommended that I attend the next Liberation Conference in Medellin, Colombia, a few months later, organized by International Liberty. The conference was an excellent opportunity to learn from a Libertarian mindset and another reason to travel to South America. Although Medellín is known for its party scene amongst tourists (extranjeros), my experience living there was focused on learning how to dance, improving my Spanish speaking, and enhancing my marketable skills. I spent most of my time at a dance school called El Candombe Dance School in the Manila district and developed a close friendship with the owner, Jhonny Blandón. If you’re interested in learning salsa, bachata, or tango, please leave a comment, and I’ll be happy to recommend an outstanding dance school and instructors.

After participating in a football tournament held in the well-known Comuna 13 of the city, I was invited by a friend to relax at a cafe cigar bar. All of a sudden, my spot for weekly gatherings and having conversations for 5–8 hours have been found in the city of Medellín.

My recommendation for your next place for a relaxing meetup (Formely High Coffee, now Habanos Highβ˜•οΈ)

I want to recommend Habanos High, a cafe, art gallery, and cigar lounge in Poblado, Medellín, Colombia, based on my personal experience with the owners, Juan Ruiz and Gaby. They are a lovely husband and wife team who have been in business together for over two decades, operating art galleries in Miami, Venezuela, and Europe.

At Habanos High, Juan Ruiz is an expert on cigars and is always happy to share his knowledge and expertise with customers. He has an extensive history with cigars and can recommend the best ones to try. Meanwhile, Gaby is passionate about art and loves to decorate delicious cakes, croissants, and other sweet treats.

The cafe is known for its cozy and inviting atmosphere. The owners are very attentive and accommodating to their customers. They have a wide selection of hand-picked beers, wines, and liquors. Their Habanos include Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, Trinidad, Bolívar, and Diplomáticos. I have become familiar with the numerous cigar options and their bands since my first visit to a cigar lounge in Antigua, Guatemala, in 2021. I thoroughly enjoy smoking a cigar surrounded by good company and conversing over a cappuccino or hot chocolate. Here is a helpful resource for beginners who are just starting to explore the world of cigars. I have found it valuable in gaining a deeper understanding of this hobby and its pleasures.

During my frequent visits, I often encountered fascinating individuals at this location. I would go alone or sometimes invite friends for meetings. We would engage in activities such as playing chess or discussing current trends in business and culture worldwide. I’m highly grateful one evening when I had a few friends, and he stayed open past closing time to be very accommodating along with changing the music being played to Carlos Gardel ( A massive tango singer from the early 20th Century who still is prominent in the Medellín Music scene today).

Habonos High has friendly service, high-quality products, and a relaxing atmosphere. Thank you, Juan Ruiz and Gaby, for creating such a wonderful place, and I look forward to visiting again soon.Muchas gracias y deseo que sigas teniendo éxito!

AND PLEASE SAVE YOUR CIGAR BAND TO GIVE TO JUAN RUIZ OR GABY, AS THEY ARE COLLECTING THEM FOR AN ART PROJECT. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions. Since I first went to High Coffee, they now operate by Habanos High.
